Rates for Non-perturbative Processes in Hot Non-abelian Plasmas

چکیده
I will be discussing the rate for non-perturbative processes in hot non-Abelian plasmas. For me “hot” means high enough temperature that the running coupling α(T ) is small, that chemical potentials are ignorable, and that there is no spontaneous symmetry breaking. Examples of non-perturbative processes include chirality violation in hot QCD and baryon number violation in hot electroweak theory (in its high-temperature symmetric phase). Both cases are related by the anomaly ∆Q ∼ g ∫

BB odeker has recently argued that non-perturbative processes in very high temperature non-Abelian plasmas (such as topological transitions in the very hot early Universe) are logarithmically enhanced over previous estimates and take place at a rate per unit volume of order 5 T 4 ln(1==) for small coupling. We give a simple physical interpretation of BB odeker's qualitative and quantitative res...

Bödeker has recently argued that non-perturbative processes in very high temperature non-Abelian plasmas (such as electroweak baryon number violation in the very hot early Universe) can be quantitatively described, to leading logarithmic accuracy, by a simple diffusive effective theory. Bödeker’s effective theory is only intended to describe long-distance transverse electric and magnetic fields...

متن کاملThe Quasiparticle Structure of Hot Gauge Theories
The study of the ultrarelativistic plasmas in perturbation theory is plagued with infrared divergences which are not eliminated by the screening corrections. They affect, in particular, the computation of the lifetime of the elementary excitations, thus casting doubt on the validity of the quasiparticle picture. We show that, for Abelian plasmas at least, the infrared problem of the damping rat...
متن کاملNon-perturbative dynamics of hot non-Abelian gauge fields: beyond leading log approximation
Many aspects of high-temperature gauge theories, such as the electroweak baryon number violation rate, color conductivity, and the hard gluon damping rate, have previously been understood only at leading logarithmic order (that is, neglecting effects suppressed only by an inverse logarithm of the gauge coupling). We discuss how to systematically go beyond leading logarithmic order in the analys...
